"We shape the clay into a pot, but it's the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want" -- another marvelous quote from Lao-Tzu.
This week's meditation brings it home for two reasons.
First, I have an assignment from a birthing book that works with clay - making art that perhaps will be meaningful enough to take into the birthing space as an anchor. I've been doodling around but unguided clay moment is a bit intimidating...
Second, Rolf Gates ties this quote in with Aparigraha - Non-hoarding. The art of appreciating emptiness in one's life. It order to do so, we first have to learn to let go. Over the years, being a family "on the go" we became quite accustomed to downsizing. I was also deeply inspired by Mari Kondo whose system is now a ritual for us, going on 3 years. What I personally still struggle with is letting go of expectations and concerns of the day. Iconic Scarlett O'Hara once said: "I'll think about it tomorrow" and I can vividly see hurt behind her eyes yet determination on her beautiful face. Yoga, feels like, goes a step further. Yes, we face our demons with a peaceful mind, but we also don't let them be the main narrative of our lives -- always striving to let go.
