And just like this, our journey north has began. It reminded me to be patient as we were waiting for green lights: literally and figuratively. It encouraged me to have faith in kind people as the accommodations had to be found for two cats. It opened my eyes to so much beauty: shrines and temples, nature: earth and foliage, limitless cold and hot water, fire of burning candles and fall crisp air. New food options surprised me and reminded me how much I like river fish. Freshly baked bread was served to us, castle stairs were climbed and certainly new memories were made.
My top 10 for this road trip:
1. Izumo Taisha
2. Eshima Ohashi Grand Bridge
3. Matsue castle
4. KagiKake path in Daisen-Oki National Park
5. Tottori Sand Dunes
6. Amanohashidate Viewland
7. Shirakawa Village
8. Echizen Great Buddha Temple
9. Hachimanzuka tumulus (part of Hodota Tombs)
10. Browsing through Nikko
P.S. To Lisa. Thank you sweet soul, for all our adventures in Sasebo and beyond. For our limitless belly laughter. For your curious and kind spirit. For all the good food you've made. My next Japanese chapter won't be the same without our weekly shenanigans and I only hope our paths cross often. Love you, dear friend.
